Selection Guide
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I size a hybrid inverter for my home?
Size the inverter for the highest simultaneous wattage of the loads you want to run, plus motor-starting surge. A typical home runs comfortably on a 5 kW hybrid inverter, while homes with multiple air conditioners or pumps need 6.5 kW to 12 kW. Solar array size is separate and should match the MPPT current and voltage limits.
Can I use a hybrid inverter without solar panels?
Yes, most hybrid inverters can charge the battery from the grid and provide backup power even if no solar array is connected. This is useful where panels are not allowed or will be added later, but you lose the energy-cost savings of solar self-consumption.
What battery voltage do I need?
Match the battery voltage to the inverter. The 1.5 kW model uses 12 V, the 4.0 kW and 5.5 kW models use 24 V, and the 6.5 kW and 12 kW models use 48 V. Using the wrong voltage will prevent operation and may damage the inverter or battery.
How many solar panels can I connect to the MPPT?
The number of panels is limited by the MPPT voltage range and maximum PV open-circuit voltage, not by inverter power alone. For example, a 500 V maximum input supports longer strings, while a 115 V input limits you to one or two small panels in series. Always check the inverter datasheet before designing strings.
Can these inverters run pumps and air conditioners?
Yes, but verify surge power. Motors can draw 3× to 7× their running wattage for a few seconds. The range shows surge ratings from 2.4 kVA up to 24 kVA; choose an inverter whose surge rating comfortably exceeds your largest motor’s locked-rotor current.
